2018 has ended, and now is the time to start the traditional resolutions for a better me and a better life. Much like a lot of other people I’m sure, I’ve had New Year’s resolutions before, with not much luck in seeing them out.


The first thing that is on mine and I’m sure many others’ list, is to become a vegetarian. Whilst the main reason for my resolution is my love for animals, and my dislike towards the death of animals just for food, I am also aware of the unsustainable animal farming industry and the consequences it has for our planet.

For a while now I’ve been saying to myself and others that I want to become vegetarian. The hardest thing for me is that I love food, and I have certainly loved trying different cuisines containing beef, pork and most of all chicken (as you would see from my numerous food blog posts). However, I’ve felt like a hypocrite when announcing my love for all animals, yet continue to eat a variety of them because of society’s norms. Now, as of January 1st, I am meat free, and as much as I want to do this for ethical reasons, it has also become a personal challenge for me – especially to prove to my family who do not believe I can do it.


Another resolution of mine is charity. Recently I have started donating to WWF, as I feel like more needs to be done to help to save many of the animals on our planet. At the moment it is only £5 a month, but anyone can donate anything, which contributes to the planting of forests, ranger salaries and animal preservation.

On the topic of charity, I really want to – and I feel like everybody should try – to give blood. The only reason I haven’t in the past is laziness to find somewhere to donate, so this year I’ll make a change to that!


A final resolution of mine is to become more organised, proactive and productive. I’ve become so used to sitting around, mainly playing Playstation and being productive on the odd occasion, but then I’ll often feel like I’m wasting time and losing out on achieving things.

I am now half way through my last year of university, and the last few months that made up the first semester went extremely quickly, so I’m preparing myself for some fast paced months ahead. I really want to try and cut down on my procrastination, and especially focus on my university work, and trust me, that’s a lot harder than it looks when you’re an avid gamer like me.
